I don’t even think about reviewing these endless URL shorteners that I find all over the Internet unless they add some kind of twist to the whole process – a process that we all know and have gotten used to by now. Mind you, that doesn’t necessarily make them any better – it just denotes that the ones who devised them at least took the time to think of something different.
That is the case as far as Soso goes. The site (which has the accompanying tagline of “Simple URL shortener”) has the distinctive characteristic of letting you have a screen with a text displayed when the user clicks on your link, right before he gets to the actual site whose URL you have shortened.
What good is this for? Well, the most practical use I can imagine is for protecting sites with passwords. And at the other end of the specter, you can use it for telling a joke or two before the visitor lands on your site.
To be frank, I don’t think this service has got a lot of potential but I respect the fact its creators thought about adding an element of their own to something so tried and tested as URL shortening.
