Rockstar Games fans are buzzing with excitement as they speculate about the release date of the next Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer. Some believe they have found a clue in a recent image promoting an upcoming Grand Theft Auto Online update. The image features a waning gibbous moon, a phase that will occur next on November 17 or around November 22.
This isn’t the first time fans have connected lunar imagery to GTA announcements. Two months before Rockstar shared the December 5 release date for the first GTA 6 trailer, they released a screenshot from GTA Online’s Moon Festival celebration. The moon in that image was a waning gibbous pointing towards December 1, the day of the announcement.
While the theory may seem far-fetched, it’s just another example of the enthusiasm and dedication of the GTA community. Fans have a history of scouring the games for hidden secrets and analyzing every detail for clues about upcoming releases. Rockstar Games has not commented on the speculation.
Fans won’t have to wait long to find out if the moon theory proves true once again. The GTA 6 gameplay teaser has some fans concerned that their expectations for the game may be too high. A former Rockstar Games developer recently stated that the new game would “blow people away,” but not all fans are convinced.
Fans decode possible GTA 6 clues

Some are skeptical about whether GTA 6 can meet or exceed the immense hype surrounding it. One Reddit user remarked, “I have no doubts that this game will blow every other open world game out of the water – because that’s how Rockstar rolls – but you can’t treat this game like it’s God’s gift to the world.
It cannot possibly live up to that level of hype.”
Others remain cautiously optimistic, expecting an evolution of Rockstar’s signature realism without inflating their hopes to unreachable levels. Fans aim to balance their excitement with realistic expectations, believing Rockstar is capable of creating another great game, even if it’s not the greatest of all time. Borderlands fans have reason to celebrate as the release window for Borderlands 4 has been narrowed down.
Take-Two Interactive, the owner of developer Gearbox, revealed in its earnings release that the game is slated for release during fiscal year 2026, which runs from April 2025 to March 2026. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick also mentioned that Borderlands 4’s release won’t clash with another highly anticipated title, GTA 6, which is scheduled for Fall 2025. “I think it’s safe to say that we wouldn’t, and no one would, stack up huge releases unnecessarily,” Zelnick stated.
Given this information, it’s likely that Borderlands 4 will launch between April and September 2025, or perhaps after November 2025. Fans can definitely rule out a release before April 2025. The scheduled release window adds to the growing excitement for 2025’s game lineup, which already promises to be phenomenal.
Fans can stay tuned to their favorite gaming news sources for more updates on these highly anticipated titles.
