The next Battlefield game is generating buzz among fans. EA finally shared details this week, with Vince Zampella confirming a modern setting. The first concept art was revealed, sparking speculation about the real-world location.

Fans believe the war-torn setting in the art is Gibraltar. Video game creator TacticalBrit tweeted that landmarks in the art match real features of Gibraltar.

“Makes perfect sense for any game with a theoretical conflict as Gibraltar acts as a strategic bridge between Europe and Africa,” he added.

Gibraltar appeared in 2006’s Battlefield 2142 in the Camp Gibraltar map. Details are limited so far. Zampella said the game will bring back traditional classes, moving on from the Specialists system.

The art hints at ship and helicopter combat, plus disasters like wildfires. Four EA studios are working on it: DICE on multiplayer, Criterion on single and multiplayer, Motive on single-player, and Ripple Effect on a “new experience.” No release date or platforms are announced yet. Battlefield General Manager Bryon Beede said the game will have “large-scale community-driven testing” early next year.

Battlefield returns to modern warfare

It’s been tested internally nearly every day for over a year. Ripple Effect is making a free Battle Royale mode to go with the main game, like Call of Duty’s Warzone.

The game is set from 2027 to 2030. In the campaign, a private military force fights NATO. Locations include Gibraltar and the USA, likely for Battle Royale.

Plans are for 45 weapons at launch, double Battlefield 2042. Around ten multiplayer maps are expected, similar to past games. Destruction will be overhauled, with caliber-based damage like Rainbow 6 Siege.

The new movement will let you carry downed players, likely for Battle Royale but also classic “Battlefield moments.”

The name is still being decided, possibly Battlefield or Battlefield 6. Community testing will be extensive, and the Battlefield CTE may be brought back. Excitement is growing as more information comes out.

Stay tuned for the latest on the next Battlefield.
