You’re losing a big part of the movie scene if you’re sticking to commercial and mainstream, but hope’s not lost: take a look at this site to start making up for the time you lost. Here you’ll be able to find a wide selection of US films dealing with gender issues: the site’s divided basically in gay and lesbian movies, and carries mainly feature movies in different genres like comedy, musicals and drama, plus a limited selection of TV series.
Watch the movies’ trailers online, and go on to buy the DVDs from the site (they have no downloads for the time being, though hopefully they will consider it, in view of the mass acceptance similar services like iTunes have had). Though finding a title is easy, there’s room for lots of improvement: I reckon searching would be made more comfortable if users could find movies based on director/cast or topic (a genre category is featured, but some more highlight would be good); also, shopping guidelines along the lines of ‘If you enjoyed this, try this other thing’ seem adequate, in view that unfortunately most of these movies are not too well known outside the LGBT community.
