TELO Trucks, a compact electric vehicle startup, has partnered with Aptera to integrate solar technology into its MT1 electric pickup truck. Customers who pre-order the TELO MT1 can choose from three solar panel configurations to enhance the vehicle’s range and reduce grid dependency. The solar panels can generate up to 200 watts in peak sunlight, providing 1 to 2 kWh of free energy daily depending on the vehicle’s location and the season.

TELO will offer three solar panel kits: rooftop truck cab solar paneling, tonneau truck bed cover solar paneling, and camper shell solar paneling. TELO Trucks was founded by professionals with varied backgrounds in automotive technology and design. The startup introduced its MT1 compact electric pickup truck in June 2023, which offers the same interior cabin space and bed length as a Toyota Tacoma within a vehicle length similar to that of a MINI Cooper.

solar integration enhances Telo MT1 range

The MT1 is available in single and dual motor configurations, with an optional long-range battery pack that promises a range of over 350 miles. TELO reports having received over 4,550 pre-orders for the MT1 since its unveiling.

TELO co-founder and CEO Jason Marks noted, “Whether buyers are looking for a commuter vehicle, a safer, more sustainable option to serve their family’s needs, a rugged, dependable pickup truck for outdoor adventuring, or a highly-functional fleet vehicle that increases their business’s efficiency, TELO continues to be a first-in-class automotive option to satisfy the many needs of car buyers.”

TELO’s first fully realized drivable truck prototype is currently being assembled by Aria Group, moving beyond renderings towards production-intent solar electric trucks. The companies aim to collaborate on advancing sustainable mobility, harnessing the power of the sun to make life off the grid a reality for everyone. TELO plans to make the solar panel options available for MT1 truck pre-orders later this year.

The integration of solar panels in the Telo MT1 reflects a growing trend in the electric vehicle sector to incorporate solar technology, aiming to enhance vehicle efficiency and reduce dependency on charging infrastructure.
