Hazelight Studios has done it again with their latest release, “Split Fiction.” This cooperative two-player game takes players on a wild ride through the imaginations of two aspiring writers, Mio and Zoe. The story revolves around these characters trapped in a virtual reality created by Rader Publishing, a company that steals ideas from hopeful authors. As Mio and Zoe navigate this technology-driven world, they must battle glitches and work together to bring down Rader and reclaim their creativity.
What sets “Split Fiction” apart is its diverse gameplay styles.

Players alternate between Mio’s sci-fi world and Zoe’s fantasy realm, facing challenges that range from shooting and platforming to sailing and gravity-shifting. Despite the variety, the transitions between these styles are seamless, keeping players engaged throughout the game.
The game also excels in its side stories, offering optional quests that delve deeper into the characters’ inspirations.

SPLIT FICTION is an absolute joy of a game. We must protect @HazelightGames and @josef_fares at all costs.
The game such an incredible follow-up to IT TAKES TWO. So much gameplay variety, a never-ending adventure of fun and surprises. Play it with someone you love. pic.twitter.com/l7LvLjzgUs

A whimsical co-op journey
These quests add depth and replayability to an already impressive game.
Humor is another standout aspect of “Split Fiction.” From rainbow-farting pigs to dancing royal monkeys, the game isn’t afraid to embrace the absurd. Yet, it also thoughtfully explores themes of creativity and friendship, providing an emotional journey as Mio and Zoe confront the traumas that fuel their imaginative works. While the game’s near-instant respawn system can be frustrating during certain boss battles, this is a minor complaint in an otherwise brilliantly executed game.
“Split Fiction” is Hazelight Studios at its best, pushing the limits of genre and co-op gameplay in an imaginative adventure through two wildly different worlds. 10/10
