However, the remake allows you to see your team before engaging enemies. This pays homage to the series’ roots in a lovely way. The HD-2D graphical style, seen in games like Octopath Traveler, looks stunning here.

Dragon Quest III’s stunning graphical update
The orchestral score and English voice acting, especially for the protagonist’s father Ortega, are also excellent additions.
The game progression is a bit slow at first but picks up after a few hours. Leveling up your party is key, as enemies get tougher in each new area. Boss fights especially require grinding beforehand.
The remake adds some new content, like the ability to befriend and battle monsters in an arena. There are also new story episodes fleshing out Ortega’s character. Fans will appreciate the surprises and Easter eggs, like a nod to Dragon Quest XI at the very start.
The only small issue is some unnecessary censorship of character designs. But overall, Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake masterfully captures the magic of the original. It’s an ideal entry point for newcomers to the series as well.
This is one of the finest remakes in recent memory.
