The Financial Times and data provider Statista have released a new ranking of Europe’s top startup hubs. The list rates 150 of the best campuses, labs, and other institutions that offer incubator and accelerator programs to rapidly-growing tech companies across the continent. Scores were calculated by Statista using a weighted combination of alumni ratings, industry perceptions, and the track record of companies that went through the programs.
Munich and Paris dominate the list, hosting five out of the 10 best-performing hubs, with four of the top five spots. UnternehmerTUM in Munich finished first for the second year in a row. The nonprofit runs 20 programs that help startups grow, from prototyping and pitching to venture capitalists to developing leadership skills.
Europe’s leading startup hubs unveiled
Each year, 5,000 participants join its programs, resulting in the creation of 50 new businesses. Station F in Paris, founded in 2017 by French billionaire Xavier Niel, offers over 30 startup programs.
It has attracted over 1,000 startups and hosted notable GenAI startups. The hub is central to France’s and Europe’s tech ecosystem. The UK and Ireland boast the most hubs overall with 33, followed by Spain and Portugal with 24, Germany with 19, Eastern Europe with 17, and Scandinavia and the Baltics with 16.
Other top hubs include Start2 Group in Munich, HEC Paris Innovation & Entrepreneurship Institute in Paris, Founders Factory in London, Venture Kick in Switzerland, Lanzadera in Valencia, SSE Business Lab in Stockholm, Startup Autobahn Powered by Plug and Play in Stuttgart, and the ESA Business Incubation Center. These hubs are crucial pillars of Europe’s startup ecosystem, driving innovation and supporting the next generation of tech leaders.
