Goodr has opened a new grocery store in Atlanta, GA. The store will provide free meals to 100 local families and seniors each month. The store is located in a food desert in Southwest Atlanta.

Food deserts are areas with major barriers to accessing healthy foods. These barriers include a lack of grocery stores, low incomes, and no transportation. “What a perfect place to open a Goodr store here at the William Walker Rec Center,” said Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens.

“A pillar of service to our community for decades.”

Goodr is an Atlanta-based company that uses technology and logistics to fight food waste and food insecurity. The company was founded by Jasmine Crowe-Houston.

Goodr combats food insecurity locally

“[Goodr] uses technology to solve hunger — that’s our big focus,” Crowe-Houston said in a 2021 interview. “We are taking a radically different approach to how this country solves hunger and food waste.”

Goodr has received at least $9.4 million in funding since it started. It has also formed partnerships with organizations like Denver Public Schools, Aetna, and Amazon.

In 2021, Goodr opened a free grocery and clothing store at McNair Middle School in College Park, GA with the help of rapper Gunna. The City of Atlanta celebrated the opening of the new Goodr store on Instagram. “With the support of Invest Atlanta’s $2.6M investment, Goodr continues to make a real impact, ensuring families have access to fresh, healthy food.

This is a step toward building long-term food security and healthier neighborhoods for all.”

The opening of the Goodr store is an important step in addressing the food insecurity faced by many residents in southwest Atlanta. Goodr shows no signs of slowing down its efforts to innovate and use technology to solve the problem of hunger.
