Have you ever stopped and counted the amount of money in unused gift cards that you have? If not, you might as well be in for a bit of a shock, or a surprise at the very least. Some recent studies show that the average American has got about $300 worth of gift cards at the back of some forgotten drawer. And yes, this happens today, as the country is trying to reach some kind of economic stability, and everything seems to be going the wrong way.
But if Giftly manages to take off, that might become a thing of the past. This new company is taking gift cards and changing the way they’re created. It will let you create a custom gift card for any store that you want, and this gift card is one the recipient will be able to redeem using just a mobile check-in.
Giftly cards can be created in a couple of minutes, and you can personalize them as much as you want. You can add logos, messages and anything that would make the recipient beam with joy. And something really novel is that you can also choose more than one store at which the card could be redeemed. Giftly allows you to pick as many as three different stores per card – any location on Yelp will do. And your recipient can then redeem the card at the one he finds handier.
Giftly is not alone in trying to combat the superabundance of unused gift cards. Companies like Cardpool and Plastic Jungle are also doing their bit, only that from a different angle – they let you sell your unwanted gift cards.
At the end of the day, we’re talking about something that could never be completely solved for the simple reason that people are fickle in themselves. But all of these services help us have the peace of mind which comes from knowing that what’s meant as a gift will actually be put to a right use, not end up gathering dust in a corner.
