“Every time I get into my little red car that is covered with dog paw magnets, I smile,” says Jo Anne Cohn, owner of FunCarTattoos. “And what makes it even better is when I’m stopped at a red light, people give me the thumbs up and flash a huge smile.”
Cohn says the idea for FunCarTattoos came from wanting to have more fun in her life. She was tired of the 9 to 5 routine and making decisions by committee. Having spent time as a Peace Corps volunteer in central Africa, Cohn knew that starting a business wasn’t enough. She had to figure out a way to “share the wealth” and give back to the community.
“FunCarTattoos combines the best from the corporate world and the nonprofit world,” says Cohn. Five percent of the selling price of the magnets will go to non-profits including Canine Companions for Independence, the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition, and the YWCA of Sonoma County. Cohn is always looking for new magnet designs and non-profits to team up with. “I’d like to expand my product line and include some cute cat paw print magnets. I just haven’t made the time to find a grassroots non-profit to team up with.”
Having fun is all in a day’s work for Cohn. Now that she’s gotten the magnets designed, she has to figure out how to market them. “And that’s where even more fun comes in,” says Cohn grinning ear to ear. “Take a look at this smiling skull and cross bones,” pointing to a very friendly car magnet. “Did you know that International Talk Like a Pirate Day is coming up on September 19th? Now I’ve just got to figure out how to market to that group!”
