Launched last month to little fanfare, Fampus was created by a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison named Brittany Body. It is a collegiate events website that actually lists both on-campus and nearby community events. The idea is to let students have a broad picture of all that’s taking place in the area where they happen to be residing while they’re pursuing their degrees.
If you’re a student, all that you need in order to join the site is to sign up using your .edu address. That will give you access to full listings in your local area. You’ll be able to confirm attendance to anything which looks interesting, as well as voting events up and down, so that it’s easier for others to know which events are not be missed.
Fampus is already working with seven different colleges. These include Grand View University, Drake University, Simpson College, Iowa State University, University of Iowa, University of Nebraska at Lincoln and University of Wisconsin-Madison. That number is to be tripled by 2012, and the eventual aim of the Fampus’ team is to be working with no less than 300 different schools the width and breadth of the country.
