This surprising revelation occurred recently on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast. “The top 20… even the top 100 is totally dominated by China, a little bit of Korea, and then Taiwan. There are only two Americans in the top 20. The rest are from Asia,” Musk told Rogan.
When asked to reveal his in-game handle, Musk said, “Well, they actually listed me with my actual name on the list.”
Musk’s claim initially raised skepticism among the gaming community. However, fact-checks have confirmed that he is indeed ranked #19 globally for timed runs of Pit 150, a challenging dungeon in Diablo IV. Musk has shared several high-level gameplay videos on Twitter, showcasing his skills as a Barbarian character.
Musk’s surprising Diablo IV ranking
Diablo IV, released in 2023, is an action role-playing game developed by Blizzard Entertainment. Set in the dark fantasy world of Sanctuary, players must battle against the forces of evil led by the demon Lilith.
The game features five playable classes, fast-paced combat, and an open-world structure. Despite his demanding schedule running multiple companies, Musk has apparently found time to dedicate to the game. During the podcast, he elaborated on the stress-relieving benefits of gaming, saying, “If I play a video game on extreme difficulty, I have to concentrate fully, and it has a calming effect.”
Some social media users have speculated whether Musk paid someone to level up his character or hired gamers to play for him.
However, no evidence supports these claims. Musk’s gaming history includes promoting titles like Cyberpunk 2077, which features Grimes, the mother of some of his children. He has also engaged with the gaming community on various topics, even calling for a “gamer voter bloc” and participating in discussions about gaming culture.
