A dream come true for any kid of the 80s, what Blip.me does is to turn your smartphone into a walkie-talkie. Blip.me is available at no cost for iOS and Android (App Store link, Android Market link), and if you get it you’ll be able to send voice messages that your friends will get to answer in a push-to-talk fashion. Just as if you were back in the 80s, ten years old, sitting on the rooftop at midnight with your walkie-talkie in hand. You can tell I did that, can’t you?
I find it a bit hard to review this app without getting all nostalgic in the process. And that makes me wonder exactly how useful Blip.me can be. If you like this app, you’re liking it for its retro value. No doubt about it. Blip.me doesn’t radically change the way in which you communicate with others. And I believe its creators know as much. And that they don’t really care about beating every other messaging app that’s ever been released. No, Blip.me is mostly a fun app. And more than often, that’s all you need to end what was a really bad day with a smile in your face. A memory is worth a million, indeed.
