Warris Bokhari, the CEO and co-founder of Claimable, is on a mission to tackle insurance claim denials in the US healthcare system. His AI-driven startup, founded two years ago, helps patients appeal denied claims with an 85% success rate. Bokhari, raised in the UK, saw the stark differences between the UK and US healthcare systems.

His family never faced medical expenses in the UK, but working in the US revealed that necessary care is not guaranteed. “The fear around getting sick and seeking help in the US is a significant concern,” Bokhari said. Insurance companies often hinder rather than facilitate care.

Claim denial rates have risen for over a decade. In 2021, 17% of in-network claims by HealthCare.gov insurers were denied. However, 41% of appealed claims are overturned, but less than 1% of claimants appeal.

Claimable’s AI analyzes clinical research, appeal precedents, policies, and medical history to generate appeals within minutes. Most appeals cost patients $39.95, plus shipping.

The platform supports appeals for over 50 FDA-approved treatments for conditions like autoimmune diseases and migraines. Claimable sends appeal copies to regulators for oversight. “Regulators may not realize that these denial cases are not isolated incidents.

They make headlines, but these everyday tragedies impact many American lives,” said Bokhari. “Patients have a right to be heard, and Claimable helps legitimize their stories.”

Claimable closed its seed round in March 2024, backed by Walkabout VC, Humanrace Capital, and others. As part of Nvidia’s startup program, the company now employs around 11 team members.

By using AI to fight claim denials, Claimable aims to remove the fear of seeking medical help and ensure patients receive the care they need.
