Requesting a car service is a process that has always been unreliable at best. We all know far too well (and far too sadly) that three cabs might go by while we wait for our requested vehicle to come round the corner at a pace that would make a Galapagos tortoise proud.
Well, this young company sets to update such a process, and inject as much vigor into it as possible.
The basic premise is that of letting you hire a vehicle (a high-end sedan) using your iPhone. An app is provided for users to request a black car limo service within a reasonable amount of time (IE, a couple of minutes) for about half the cost of hiring a cab.
Alternatively, a vehicle can be requested by sending out a SMS, but you don’t have all advantages of using the application such as in-app billing.
For the time being, this service is limited to San Francisco only. If all goes according to plan, it is coming to other American cities in mid 2010.
UberCab.com In Their Own Words
“For almost a century the process to request a car service has been extremely similar to what it is today, terrible. Your options are to place a request by telephone for a car arriving the next day or you could walk to the street and hope that an available taxi would happen to pass by at the same time. There was no efficiency or dependability to the process, and there still isn’t today. In early 2009 we set out to advance this industry and bring innovative solutions to this problem.
Today the UberCab team is working to provide high-quality, on-demand car service booked easily through your iPhone or SMS. Our location based dispatch platform provides elite, efficient, and simple car service using high-end sedans with reputable drivers rather than traditional taxi cabs.”
Why UberCab.com It Might Be A Killer
Hiring a sedan with a professional driver for less than it costs hiring a taxi is something not that many people would have to think twice.
