I’ve never had that much time for these sites where people create top ten lists for whatever they love or loathe, but it seems everybody else does. Either they are really easy to create, or there’s something truly enjoyable about them that I’m not getting. Sites like Jamza and The Top 10 Place have never made a true impression on me. And neither does this new one. Named TopTenz, it essentially lets people create lists where they can elaborate on these things they are passionate about, and lists where they can enumerate all their peeves and pet hates.
“Top 10 Exceptional Children and Teenagers”, “Top 10 Reasons not to Live in New York”, “Top 10 Worst As Seen on TV Products”… these are standard fare on this site. And I’ve never, ever been really attracted to this kind of content. And that’s not really changing now.
Yet, I’m the first to admit that Toptenz is actually quite fun to use because it doesn’t merely feature one list of names after the other. No, the lists that are included on this site come with detailed descriptions. People who create lists are required to explain the reasoning behind their every inclusion, and that ends up making the whole site something you can relate to more easily. Even a list you wouldn’t really be that interested in can end up being good fun to read when its creator has taken the time to explain precisely why he has built it the way he did, and add a well-timed joke or two along the way.
