TheMolu.com – Another New Search Engine

TheMolu.comMolu, which bills itself “The Search Spider”, aims to be your main choice for better web searches. It claims to have many distinguishing search features, including a list of 14 categories to automatically streamline your search (for example, Wikipedia, MySpace, etc.

). There are apparently other unique features, but you have to watch a video to figure out what they are. I watched the video and the cutest older man sincerely and sweetly tried to walk me through his search engine features. Because he sounded like a sweet grandfather, I wanted to hang in there with him…but it was impossible. A web site should not need a video to help you learn how to use it. I think it is a good additional resource for explaining a site, but it should not be the main resource. Nonetheless, I admit I was so taken in by the geniuneness of the creator”s voice and intent, I am still rooting for this site.

Why TheMolu.com It Might Be A Killer

Search engines are all the rage these days, and I believe most of them have at least one feature that will improve the genre overall. While I don”t know which feature on this site will be of permanent value (the categories, perhaps), I believe those in the search engine business would likely find value and use to this addition to the field.

Some Questions About TheMolu.com

Why is there not text or simple graphics exhorting the virtues and characteristics of this site? Why are they only relying on a lengthy, but sweet, video to relay their strenghts? Is there any way they can market their product to larger search engine sites to integrate efforts? I also always ask why all search engines look the same (white with one small text box)? How do they hope to make a profit? TheMolu.com
