TarPits.org is the site of the Natural History Museum located at the Rancho La Brea Tar Pits, in Los Angeles; this is one of the world’s most famous fossil localities, recognized for having the largest and most diverse assemblage of extinct Ice Age plant and animals in the world.
Within this site, you will be able to learn about Los Angeles, the way it was during the last Ice Age, when animals such as saber-toothed cats and mammoths roamed the Los Angeles Basin. You can find within the Information section, all about the hours and admissions, directions, group sales information, and all there is to know about the museum. Within the Research section, you will be able to find to learn much about the research and collections, such as fossils, pit 91, laboratory, Gilbert collection, volunteer information, and much more information about the Rancho La Brea Department, or look inside the world-famous “fish-bowl” laboratory.
