Snit.us is a new resource that is self defined as “A better looking Craigslist”.
In actuality, I think that the value of the site does not necessarily lie in it looking better or not than Craiglist, but in placing a bigger importance on the findability of the content that is listed.
SEO considerations were obviously pivotal for the ones who designed Snit.us, and the addition of features like individual RSS feeds for each and every section in every town that is featured is just one of the obvious highlights. Other includes the frequent submission of all major URLs to Google Maps in order to make it all even more reachable by the public at large.
Leaving these aspects aside (but remembering that they can lead to a significantly enhanced overall experience), using the site does not entail picking up any special skill. In fact, the site is entirely usable regardless of the fact that you are well-acquainted with Craiglist or not. After all, how difficult can it be to post a classified ad using your computer and a web browser? Exactly.
Snit.us In Their Own Words
“I always liked Craigslist and always hated the way it seemed so disorganized. Created this little site not so much to compete but be an alternative. It may not ever make a dime but its a good platform to test integrating web technologies like RESTful APi’s (see real estate section if you want to see what it does), Flicker (still working this one out).”
Why Snit.us It Might Be A Killer
A clear effort has been made to make the site and its content extremely SEO-friendly, and that can make a difference in the end.
