The Shorty Awards is an online initiative that aims to honor the top users in the Twitterverse. The site enables you to nominate any person you want in any of the existing categories.
Some of these include “Finance”, “Personal” and “Sports” along with others such as “Tech” and “Startups”. Of course, it is also possible to nominate via Twitter by tweeting @shortyawards with a “@nominee” and a “#category”, as well as detailing why do you think that person deserves the accolade.
The five people that amass the most votes in each category will then go on a final voting round, and those who emerge as the winners will deliver a speech at a ceremony held in New York City. This speech has the particularity of being limited to140 characters, in order to keep the flag of micro-blogging going.
