It’s Nietzsche who said that if you stare long into the abyss the abyss will stare back at you, and he was right: the massive adoption of MySpace to host profiles for startup musicians has definitely spoiled the genre of official artists’ sites, and SeanKingston.com is no exception to this rule.
In this site you won’t miss any of the sections you’d find in his social networking profiles, and there’s nothing much more than that, really. You can buy some stuff from the site, though, like ringtones, which will get delivered directly to your mobile, and official merchandise, which you can get from a third party (merchdirect.com). In any case, the site is really a good place to learn about what Sean Kingston will be up to, read what his media manager has to say in the blog area (the artist himself won’t write anything there), listen to his music, find links to videos, or download exclusive desktop graphics. Probably the only different area of the site is the photo gallery bit, where users are encouraged to upload any candid, cellphone pics, and images of themselves and Sean Kingston, whether they are real or not (there are some wacky photomontages on display here). Hopefully the media people can do something a bit more creative for the site: if his music is as revolutionary as his site is, I don’t think we will be hearing too much about this guy in the future.
