The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ are undergoing various regulatory certifications globally. Certification in China revealed that both models will maintain their predecessors’ maximum charging levels.

The Galaxy S25 will charge at up to 25W, while the Galaxy S25+ will support up to 45W charging via USB-C.

Wireless charging speeds haven’t been disclosed through certification, leaving those details to be confirmed later.

This stagnation in charging technology is part of a broader trend observed in Samsung’s flagship smartphone line, which has also shown little change in design. Both models are expected to look almost identical to their predecessors, focusing on refinements rather than market-revolutionizing innovations.

Some critics argue that Samsung needs to improve charging speeds significantly, with suggestions of up to 120W for future models. However, the company appears to prioritize incremental updates over radical changes. With an expected launch in January 2025, Samsung’s Galaxy S family is set to redefine the smartphone landscape for the first half of the year.

Samsung appears to be preparing a significant general update for the S25 family and the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

The internal codename for the Galaxy S25 Ultra, “paradigm,” suggests a significant shift in design or functionality.

Design leaks have shown the Galaxy S25 Ultra moving towards a more angular and box-like design by eliminating the curved edges. However, the paradigm shift likely refers to internal hardware or software enhancements rather than aesthetic design. The arms race in smartphone technology continues across various fronts, including camera quality, screen technology, and chipsets—all improving yearly.

While hardware improvements are expected, any major hardware shifts might be seen in Samsung’s Galaxy Z foldable phones, typically updated in the summer. Another potential area for a paradigm shift is software. In January 2024, Samsung released Galaxy AI, a comprehensive AI suite compatible with many Galaxy S and Galaxy A series phones.

Given the industry trend, software advancements in AI—especially those related to health and lifestyle data collection and analysis—could represent a significant step forward. Using AI to enhance health data from new accessories and providing better analytics and guidance might be where Samsung sets new industry standards. With four months until the launch, more details about Samsung’s flagship smartphone are expected to emerge, clarifying what this paradigm shift will entail.
