The upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event promises the eagerly-awaited launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. With considerable speculation regarding upgrades, one aspect stands out – Samsung’s clear commitment towards enhancing device durability. Leaks point to augmented features, fostering greater functionality and long-term sustainability of the foldable phones.
Iterative design in these new models is evidenced by the Armor Aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection for the cover screen. Piquing interest is the anticipated, albeit unconfirmed, titanium frame of the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
Improved dust and water resistance denote Samsung’s continuous strides towards increased durability. The new phones boast an IP48 rating, although this falls short when compared to the IP68 rating customary to conventional phones.
Enhancing durability in Samsung’s new foldables
How this rating performs in practical scenarios remains to be seen.
Expected in the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is a 6.3-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x screen, additionally equipped with a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x screen. Both enjoy a supported 120Hz variable refresh rate and peak brightness following up to 2,600 nits. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 maintains its compact dimensions, including a 1.1-inch Super AMOLED cover display complemented by a sizable 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED interior screen.
Power driven by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy processor coupled with 12GB RAM enhances functionality while promising robust storage options, possibly ranging up to 1TB, especially in the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Other expected notable features include advanced camera system, under-display selfie camera and innovative display technologies.
All this equipped with Android 14-based One UI 6.1.1 software, the two models are expected to exhibit efficient cooling systems as well as a suite of AI features.
Promising a stellar camera system with the inclusion of under-display cameras, both devices are anticipated to deliver stunning photography and videography experiences with high-resolution and slow-motion video recording capabilities. But the quality largely hinges on software optimization and advanced cameras consume power, raising battery life concerns.
Although specifics remain undisclosed, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the slimline Galaxy Z Flip 6, now with an upgraded 4,000mAh battery, promise significant improvements while reducing overall size and weight.
