Palantir Technologies Inc. (PLTR) and MicroStrategy Inc. (MSTR) stocks fell on their first day as part of the Nasdaq 100 Index.
The Nasdaq announced the three companies would join the index before today’s start of trading as part of its annual reconstitution. Shares of Palantir, MicroStrategy, and Axon Enterprise traded lower on their debut. Despite today’s selloff, Palantir Technologies and MicroStrategy have seen substantial gains this year, skyrocketing 360% and 445%, respectively.
Axon Enterprise shares have also jumped 140% over the same period. MicroStrategy provided an update on its previously announced stock sale and recent bitcoin purchases. The company, which announced a stock sale on Oct.
30 aiming to raise up to $21 billion, noted in a regulatory filing that between Dec. 16-22, it sold approximately 1.3 million shares valued at $561 million.
Palantir and MicroStrategy on Nasdaq
About $7.08 billion of shares remain available for purchase. MicroStrategy, the largest corporate holder of bitcoin, reported that it acquired 5,262 bitcoins between Dec. 16-22 at an average price of $106,662, close to the cryptocurrency’s all-time high.
As of Sunday, the company owned 444,262 BTC. Palantir, known for its data analytics and software solutions, has maintained strong market interest due to its involvement in both public and private sectors. Throughout 2024, Palantir expanded its client base and enhanced its product offerings, leading to impressive financial performance and optimistic market sentiment.
MicroStrategy, recognized for its business intelligence solutions, has also gained a substantial reputation in the cryptocurrency market.
