The tagline of this new search engine is “Making apartment hunting suck less”, and it aims to make this come true by enabling users to look up offerings all over the continental US in a dynamic way.
The search process can be conducted both by city and by address, and the results are presented as part of a Google Map, with information culled from Craiglist.
One of the immediate concerns of the programmer is including listings from other sources in the near future.
As the programmer himself explains, this mashup was based on HousingMaps – he found it useful when he had to conduct an apartment search, yet found it a bit limiting when it came to the actual number of results. He created this solution in order to address this concern, and he took into account as many refinement labels as he could. For example, you can specify the number of bedrooms, the max price and whether animals are allowed. All in all, a quite practical tool that has the potential to help more than one US citizen out there.
PadMapper.com In Their Own Words
“PadMapper is a webapp that aims to make hunting for an apartment online less painful by letting you see where the apartments are on a big map, and using the filters located in the box on the lower left to eliminate listings that you wouldn’t be interested in. Currently, PadMapper only displays craigslist listings, but I plan to add others.”
