Gravatars, are of course, picture icons which represent you in chat, in comments, on networks etc. They are quite common and popular.
Now, we have Openvatar, which takes Gravatar and mixes it up with OpenID. Rather than having your image associated to your identity through email as with Gravatar, it will be associated to your OpenID account. To use it, just log in to Openvatar with your OpenID account and upload your avatar picture (80×80). Thus, whenever you participate on a site supporting OpenID, your avatar will appear right beside your comment. There’s also a WordPress Plug-in. The site is powered by Drupal and is currently in alpha.
Openvatar.com In Their Own Words
“Openvatar is your Openid avatar image (80×80). Your avatar appear beside your name when you participate (comments or other contents) on Openvatar enabled sites.”
Why Openvatar.com It Might Be A Killer
This is a good idea. Once everything is finalized and done, it should work quite well. It’s quite timely as OpenID is becoming accepted by more and more sites.
