The Nintendo Switch 2 is generating a lot of buzz among gamers. Rumors and leaks have been circulating online, hinting at what the new console might offer. According to industry analyst Serkan Toto, Nintendo is likely to announce the Switch 2 soon.
The company has been monitoring the recent design leaks and may be eager to unveil the console earlier than planned. The leaks suggest that the Switch 2 will resemble a slightly larger version of its predecessor. It may feature magnetic Joy-Con attachments and an additional button below the Home button on the right Joy-Con.
A leaker on Chinese platform Weibo has hinted that the Switch 2 might be revealed on January 8. The same leaker claims that the countdown to the reveal began on December 21. Several companies manufacturing accessories have reportedly provided a sneak peek at the new console based on specifications provided by Nintendo.
A trailer and a video posted on a Chinese video-sharing platform also seem to suggest what the Switch 2 might look like. Nintendo has stated that an official announcement will be made before the end of the current financial year, which concludes in March 2025. Shuntaro Furukawa, President of Nintendo, confirmed that the Switch 2 will be compatible with existing Nintendo Switch games.
Nintendo Switch 2 rumors heating up
However, it remains unclear whether this compatibility extends to physical games or is restricted to downloadable software. Gamers are excited about the rumored upgrades that the Switch 2 may offer.
These include an improved design, a significant performance boost, and revamped Joy-Con controllers. The Switch 2 is expected to pack 12GB of RAM, a big increase from the 4GB on the current Switch models. It’s said to run on a Tegra 239 CPU and support NVIDIA DLSS Super Resolution and Ray Reconstruction.
However, one area where the Switch 2 could be downgraded is its display. VGC claims that the Switch 2 won’t pack an OLED screen and will instead stick with an LCD as found on the regular Switch. The Joy-Con controllers may also see a major change.
Various rumors have suggested that the Switch 2 will feature a new electromagnetic connection system, which should feel more sturdy and secure. Another reported change to the Joy-Cons will be a more rounded design, which could make the console feel more premium and comfortable. As the anticipation builds, gamers are eagerly awaiting official updates from Nintendo.
