National History Day is an academic organization for elementary and high school students. Students choose historical topics related to a theme and carry out research using facilities such as libraries, archives, museums, oral history, interviews, and historic websites.
After collecting the necessary data, analyzing and interpreting their findings and sources, and drawing conclusions about the selected topics importance in history, students present their work. These findings can be presented in the form of original papers, exhibits, performances, and even documentaries. Students enter their works into competitions at local, state, and national levels. These works are evaluated by educators and professional historians. The site provides information on the program, as well as dates and registration forms for students wanting to take part. On the site both students and parents can find helpful information including research resources, awards and scholarship programs, and much more. Those interested can make a donation to the NHD, making it possible to continue to provide quality educational programs.
