I believe that the naming of a company or product is one of the most arduous parts of any launch. I recall an old issue of Amiga Computing where they showed the stand of a German company at the ECTS whose name was obviously not picked taking the global market into account.
That particular company was named “Wanko”. Embarrassing any way you look it. The way things stand today, no one would make such a gross mistake, yet I have seen lists making fun of names that are either hard to pronounce or that tell users nothing about the service itself.
This site is the perfect way to prevent that from happening. Generally speaking, it can be compared to a creative marketplace where the power of the crowd is put to the task as far as naming companies or products is concerned. Companies submit naming assignments and then the “recruits” (EG, registered site users) will start submitting names. The public will then vote on the one they liked best, and a winner will emerge. Oh, and the one who submitted it gets a monetary prize.
The main page lists the top naming assignments as of late, and the monetary award is clearly specified in each and every case. If you think you have what it takes to be up to the challenge, simply sign up online and see if you can come up with the new “Twitter” or “Facebook”.
