Mufin.com – Music Recommendation Engine

Mufin.comA service that has just left private beta, Mufin (short for “Music Finder”) can be best described as a music recommendation engine that will let you come across tunes to go with your tastes in a more or less instant fashion.

Mufin works in a very simple way: all you have to do is key in the name of the artist in question or submit the name of a tune in particular.

For instance, I typed in “My Generation” by “The Who” to come across a list of albums that included that track. Then, by clicking on the “Preview similar tracks” button a list of related tunes and artists was produced, including The Kinks and other Who cohorts alongside more contemporary artists.

A note on usage, though. Make sure to always carry out advanced searches. These will let you specify not only the name of the band and the title of the track at the same time, but also the album in question. Needless to say, I found results far more concise that way.

When all is said and done, Mufin acts as an interesting resource that can be used at no cost. Kept by a team of music addicts for music addicts, it sets the scene for better things to come.
