LockerProject.org – Store All Your Data

LockerProject.orgHave you ever stopped and thought about all the information you’ve ever shared online? And I’m not just talking about the data you’ve uploaded to your Facebook profile. I’m talking about all the emails and tweets you’ve ever sent out, and all the photos you’ve shared on sites like Flickr and Instagram. What you’re sharing there is more than just messages and photos, is who you really are. It’s the way you felt about these things that (at that time) were as important as to be shared with others.

And there’s no easy way to have all that information retrieved, and placed somewhere you can access it whenever you want afterwards. There’s just no centralized location for all the data one ever shares online. But if The Locker Project is successful, that might as well change for good.

The Locker Project is a new initiative that aims to give all of us absolute control over our data. This is done by creating lockers where we can keep all the files we ever upload to the Internet. And The Locker Project is an open source project. This means that if you use this service you’ll be able not just to have your data stored online, but that you’ll get to handle it the way you see fit. Nobody is telling you what to do with it.

Personally, I think it’s a matter of time before even people who aren’t that concerned about the data they are sharing online find a service like this one vital. The more social networks dominate the way in which we share information online, then the nearer that day will be. And The Locker Project has got all it would take for people to keep their data under control when that day comes.

LockerProject.org In Their Own Words

A Locker gives people ownership over their personal data and clear control over how it’s protected and shared. Providing flexible APIs for access to that data, Lockers are a powerful way for developers to build applications that leverage rich personal data.
