After multiple noise disturbance reports during late hours, the city council found the cafe secretly operating as a nightclub, resulting in license revocation and significant fines for owner David E. Velis.
The Lincoln Square residents hailed the council’s action as a triumph for their tranquil neighborhood. They remain optimistic that a new, law-abiding venture will replace Cafe Mimoza, keeping the area’s charm intact.
Conversely, nearby Sandunga Bar and Grill faced similar issues but effectively resolved them. Authority investigations revealed minimal attempts from Cafe Mimoza’s owner to resolve public grievances. As a result, Velis was fined $1,750 on 2nd July, and his business license was revoked.
Law Department representative Kristen Cabanban revealed that the cafe was essentially operating as a bar, against its licensing agreements, and causing an obvious public nuisance.
