Affinity EV, Positive Carbon, and Sisterly are among the top 100 start-ups in Ireland’s Hot 100 Start Ups list. The publication of the list was celebrated at an event featuring key figures such as Business Post editor Daniel McConnell, Minister of State for Business, Retail and Trade Emer Higgins, and Kevin Sherry, Executive Director of Enterprise Ireland. They highlighted Ireland as an ideal location for start-ups to thrive.
The Hot 100 Start Ups list showcases companies from across Ireland and beyond. Affinity EV, based in Galway, secured a $40 million (€36 million) contract with Qmerit, a leading charging infrastructure provider. Positive Carbon, a Dublin-based business, uses high-tech sensors to tackle food waste.
Sisterly, another Dublin start-up, specializes in women’s supplements. Both Positive Carbon and Sisterly secured significant funding in recent years. Dublin leads with the most entries on the list, followed by Cork and Galway.
Showcasing Ireland’s rising start-ups
Cork-based start-ups include Lia Eyecare, which developed technology for treating dry eye disease, and MyGug, a company converting bio-waste into energy. The list spans 19 counties, showcasing Ireland’s diverse entrepreneurial landscape.
At the launch event, Daniel McConnell emphasized the importance of highlighting Ireland’s emerging businesses. “The Hot 100 Start-Ups supplement celebrates the energy, creativity, and resilience of Ireland’s emerging businesses. These companies are not just shaping industries—they are fuelling economic growth, creating jobs, and transforming local communities,” he said.
Minister Emer Higgins praised the start-up ecosystem in Ireland, stating: “The start-up environment in Ireland is in a strong place, and this government, working with Enterprise Ireland, is here to fortify that ecosystem.”
Kevin Sherry, Executive Director at Enterprise Ireland, reiterated the organization’s commitment to helping Irish start-ups thrive. “The Hot 100 Start-Ups for 2024 demonstrates the strong pipeline of promising, innovative and export-focused entrepreneurs located throughout the country. Enterprise Ireland is proud to support these businesses on their start-up journey.”
