Apple is reportedly planning to bring its ProMotion display technology to all models in the upcoming iPhone 17 lineup. Industry sources suggest that the four iPhone 17 models, set to be announced in September 2025, will feature low-power LTPO displays. LTPO technology allows for higher variable refresh rates while consuming less power.

This means users can expect a smoother display experience without sacrificing battery life. ProMotion, which offers adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz, first appeared on the iPad Pro in 2017 and later on the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max in 2021. The inclusion of ProMotion in the base-level iPhone 17 models would address a major drawback of the iPhone 16: its lack of a higher refresh rate screen.

New iPhone 17 display technology

Samsung and LG are expected to supply the LTPO displays for all iPhone 17 models. The technology will allow the displays to ramp down to a more power-efficient refresh rate when needed.

Display Supply Chain Consultants CEO Ross Young has previously mentioned that the expansion of ProMotion to the entire iPhone 17 lineup has been rumored multiple times. In addition to the display upgrade, the iPhone 17 series is rumored to feature Apple’s first in-house Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips, as well as the company’s own 5G modem. These changes could further enhance connectivity and performance.

Apple has also increased its stake in GlobalStar by $1.1 billion, hinting at potential innovations in satellite services and emergency response features. While these leaks and rumors are exciting, it’s important to remember that Apple’s plans could change as the company finalizes its designs and features for the iPhone 17 series.
