Intel Capital has backed AI construction startup Buildots in a move to enhance data gathering and process optimization within the construction field. Among the early adopters of Buildots’ AI-based solutions are construction industry leaders such as Pomerlau, NCC, and Ledcor. The new funding is set to bolster Buildots’ continuous strides towards innovation and expansion.
This investment signifies the increasing recognition of AI’s potential to significantly transform the construction industry. External chip designing firms could also benefit from such investments as Intel plans to construct two new fab plants at its Ocotillo campus.
Despite the existing global chip scarcity, Intel has expressed a desire to augment its overall production capacity. The move aligns with its intention of realizing an environment where chip production and supply are locally controlled and universally accessible.
Intel Capital’s investment in AI-Based Buildots
Intel’s plan extends beyond self-sustainability — it also aims to cater to the technological necessities of other tech firms that need top-tier chips for their offerings.
Intel’s grand-scale construction initiatives, potentially amounting to $28 billion, have been delayed for a year due to unforeseen market circumstances. These projects, spanning four U.S. states, signal Intel’s impact in the construction domain. Nonetheless, Intel remains firm in its commitment to enhancing its technological capabilities despite recent setbacks to its strategies.
Buildots’ AI-driven solution is designed to predict construction project delays, enabling project leads to initiate corrective measures proactively. This approach significantly reduced delay periods by up to 50% during its experimental stage.
Digital technology integration within complex, multiparty construction projects has been slow. Yet, solutions like Buildots’ real-time data provision amplify work efficiency and minimize errors. This consolidation of digital solutions is essential for the construction sector to stay competitive in today’s tech-driven market.
Although a future collaboration between Intel and Buildots remains unconfirmed, the companies’ past partnership, combined with Lisa Cohen’s (Intel Capital’s Investment Director) statement on Buildots’ transformational potential, hint at a future alliance.
