Instagram is introducing a new feature called “Trial Reels” that allows creators to share their videos with people who don’t follow them. This feature is designed to help creators experiment with different types of content without worrying about how their existing audience will react. To create a Trial Reel, creators simply need to toggle on the “trial” option before posting their video.

These Trial Reels won’t appear on the creator’s profile or be visible to their followers unless they choose to share them publicly later. Creators will receive detailed analytics about their Trial Reels, including views, likes, and shares, about 24 hours after posting. This feedback can help them decide whether to share the video with their entire follower base.

If a Trial Reel performs well, creators have the option to change the settings and share it with their followers.

They can also adjust their settings to automatically share high-performing Trial Reels with a broader audience.
Early access users have reported that the feature is helpful for reaching new accounts, participating in trends, and expanding beyond their usual content niches. Instagram’s new Trial Reels feature offers a unique way for creators to test and refine their content. By exposing new formats or topics to nonfollowers first, creators can gauge interest and potentially create better, more engaging videos for all their followers.
The feature is rolling out starting today for professional accounts on Instagram. Creators can expect to see the “trial” option when creating new Reels. For more information on Instagram features and updates, stay tuned to the platform’s official announcements and help resources.
