GMI Cloud, a Santa Clara-based startup that provides GPU cloud infrastructure, has secured $82 million in Series A funding. The round was led by strategic investors Banpu and Wistron, with Banpu offering power to GMI Cloud and Wistron co-developing products with the startup. The funding consists of $15 million in equity and $67 million in debt financing, bringing GMI Cloud’s total raised capital to $93 million.
The company, launched in 2022, initially focused on providing Bitcoin computing node services but shifted to AI cloud infrastructure due to growing demand for GPU computing power. GMI Cloud’s founder and CEO, Alex Yeh, stated that the startup already serves dozens of clients in industries such as healthcare, research, and telecom. The new funds will be used to establish a data center in Colorado, expanding its capacity in North America, and complementing its existing data centers in Taiwan, Thailand, and Malaysia.

The startup also plans to increase its workforce to 60-70 staff by the end of the year, from its current 35 staff in Asia and 18 in the U.S.
The global AI market size is expected to reach $1.8 trillion by 2030. GMI Cloud competes with Big Tech firms in the GPU cloud space but differentiates itself through customized private cloud services and built-in support for Nvidia NIM, simplifying integration with Nvidia hardware and software.
The company also boasts a team of top-tier AI engineers and high-performance computing experts with experience at Google X, Alibaba Cloud, and Supermicro, holding 33 AI patents and extensive expertise in building large-scale distributed systems. Yeh emphasized, “Our team has over 20 years of AI and HPC experience. GMI also offers professional AI consulting services, guiding enterprises on model training, fine-tuning, and scaling, which competitors rarely offer.” GMI provides a cost-effective solution that delivers optimized performance and resource management, supporting businesses through end-to-end solutions from GPU hardware to AI applications.
GMI Cloud holds a significant supply chain advantage by sourcing directly from manufacturers, allowing them to maintain cost efficiency and a highly secure supply chain. The company is also the only Nvidia-certified cloud service provider in Taiwan under the NCP/NPN program, further solidifying its competitive edge in offering premium cloud services.
