A 2003 video game featuring Winnie the Pooh’s sidekick Piglet has become an unexpected horror favorite after gameplay footage went viral on social media. “Piglet’s Big Game,” released as a tie-in to the Disney film “Piglet’s BIG Adventure,” follows Piglet as he enters the dreams of his friends from the Hundred Acre Wood. The game’s popularity surged after several posts on X (formerly Twitter) accumulated millions of views.
One viral post shared audio from the game’s soundtrack, “Foreboding 1,” while others showed clips of Piglet wandering through an empty mansion filled with jump scares. In the game, Piglet must help his friends wake up by completing tasks in their dreams. Pooh is shown trying to get honey, while Eeyore mopes in his tent.
The game’s creepy atmosphere and horror-like elements have captivated gamers. Search interest in “Piglet’s Big Game” has grown since it began trending on X on November 7.
Piglet’s unexpected horror resurgence
Approximately 60 copies of the game have sold on online resale sites since then, compared to an average of zero to two copies per month previously. The game’s resurgence is the latest example of gamer nostalgia, with consumers seeking to relive the excitement of playing older titles. Video game publishers have capitalized on this trend by releasing remastered versions of popular franchises like Spyro the Dragon, Crash Bandicoot, and Tomb Raider.
Before the recent buzz, copies of “Piglet’s Big Game” sold for about $20 to $30, with some as low as $6. Now, copies are selling for $70 or more. Many gamers have compared the game to popular horror titles like Resident Evil and Silent Hill.
One X user shared a video of Piglet quivering with fear as he runs through an abandoned child’s room. Another pointed out the game’s eerie soundtrack, even asking the creative lead of the Silent Hill 2 remake if he was inspired by “Piglet’s Big Game” when composing “Chthonic Symphony.”
Disney Games and the Silent Hill 2 creative lead did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the recent interest in “Piglet’s Big Game.”
