Why do social games that revolve around doing things and taking photos to prove you’ve done them have become so popular? I mean, it was just yesterday that I wrote about a startup named IdeaMix that encouraged people to take part of daily challenges, and upload the outcome to Instagram. And on Thursday or Friday I’m going to review a site named YongoPal, that actually has an educational bent, but which also involves taking photos and having them uploaded to Instagram. And now, I’ve come across GameMaki.
This new iPhone app lets people challenge each other out, and do fun things all over the cities where they live. And when they’ve done that, tell everybody about it and share the photos they might have taken along the way, for others to comment/laugh at.
Granted, the photographic element is nowhere as crucial on GameMaki as it is on a site like IdeaMix. Location is – challenges on GameMaki are found (and created) based on where one is situated. But photos play an important role in the way experiences are related afterwards, so a link of sorts can be made.
