FriendVox.com – Facebook Messaging Service

FriendVox.comFriendVox is a messaging service for Facebook that requires no downloads, registration, or installation whatsoever. When you arrive at the FriendVox homepage, all you have to do to get the app working for you is click the blue front-and-center “Facebook” button, which prompts a pop-up (make sure your browser is allowing pop-ups).

This pop up will function as your FriendVox messenger window, where you’ll see a complete list of your Facebook friends’ names, displaying who is on or offline. From there, you’ll be able to message them as you would normally on any other messaging service. In addition, you can specify your top ten friends and receive Facebook news and updates about them. Additionally, you can poke, see if you’ve received a new message in your Facebook inbox, change your status, and see whether you have new friend requests, You can also put your friends into groups using FriendVox’s automatically generated categories (which it pulls from all or your friends networks; get ready for a loooong list). Lastly, you can view your friends in a tag cloud which presumably indicates what users have been active recently by displaying their name in a larger font. Mouse over some of these names, and you’ll see their status message if they have one.

FriendVox.com In Their Own Words

“FriendVox is the first wholly integrated, browser based Facebook instant messaging client.
There’s nothing to download, nothing to install and nothing to register. You can get started straight away.
You don’t have to even invite your friends. They are already there waiting for you. But wait, it gets better…
We’ve grouped your friends together, identified the closest ones, made a new feed out of their statuses and even allowed you to change your status on the fly!”

Why FriendVox.com It Might Be A Killer

The best thing about FriendVox is that it is not another Facebook app that clutters up your interface. It’s completely separated from Facebook and you do NOT need to install any sort of application on your Facebook page whatsoever. It’s an easy and convenient way to see what all of your friends are up to in one place. For us who are in the younger generation especially, although many of our friends are spread out across AIM, Gchat, and MySpace, most of these same contacts are on Facebook. All in all, a very useful application.

Some Questions About FriendVox.com

It would be great if FriendVox could tell you not only who’s on FriendVox, but also who’s on Facebook at a given moment so you could still interact with them in some way. While it’s great that you don’t’ have to install any software or add any Facebook apps, the downside is that you can’t see which of your friends use FriendVox. I also think FriendVox would do well to include an “invite friend” feature; for example, if you could see that one of your friends was using Facebook at a certain moment, you could use FriendVox to send them a message inviting them to use the FriendVox service to chat with you more directly. Obscurity is definitely FriendVox’s biggest obstacle right now. FriendVox.com
