We cannot thank the internet enough for making our lives so much easier, and the legal aspect is not an exception. This site is home for the California Superior Courts, and it allows parties to fill paperwork required to start or respond to a case, in different areas of civil, family and criminal law.
Here’s how the system works: first you choose to what subject your case belongs, and then you need to select in what county you will be having the trial; you’ll then have to answer a rather lengthy set of questions, provide information on yourself and the rest of the parties involved in the case, and then your forms will be automatically completed by the system and delivered to you as PDF files, which you can then go on to print and take to court to schedule appearance time and dates. For some subjects and in selected areas, you can forget about taking the papers to court as they get automatically filed through the webpage. One of the most convenient features about the site is the extensive information and glossary of legal terms they provide, so that users can learn what each term means and implies while filling in their forms. Despite the fact that this is a really great and easy-to-use service, I found two omissions: one being that there is no information on non-legal resources or support (like Help lines, domestic violence shelters or AA groups, which are always handy); the second one being the lack of information and forms for jury appointments. In short, and even taking into account these absences, if I lived in California, I would be thrilled to know that the state is making this use of my tax money!
