As you can guess by looking at its name alone, The Design News website is a specialized aggregator of news. These are grouped on the opening screen, and you can always execute a search and focus your stay on the site in that way.
When it comes to the actual design of the site, it is ironic to see how simple and basic it all is. The site in itself is quite bare, and while that certainly makes it easier to navigate it also gives it a sort of unfinished feeling. I guess the final perception will depend on each user, but I also feel that when one visits a site that is dedicated to covering web design it is not that absurd to expect it to be a fine exponent of what is being covered to begin with.
At the same time, I have to admit that the featured content is good, with articles dealing with topics like “80 fresh Photoshop tutorials for creating awesome websites”, “Beautiful Google Doodles from 1998 to 2010” and “The ultimate CSS3 toolbox: 50+ resources, tutorials and articles”.
