Dealcomet.com – Deals on Electronic Goods

Dealcomet.comLooking for a ‘phat’ deal? Deal Comet aims to find deals on electronic products for the MTV set, apparently. They pride themselves on using the word ‘phat’ (or cool, for those that may not know) in their description about themselves.

The site uses a Digg format to let users determine the rank and placement of deals and coupons on popular tech products such as cell phones, computers, video cameras and the like. They also have photos of the products, which helps. Finally, they offer forums for users to discuss whatever they want about stores and products, but this seems a new and relatively untouched feature. The biggest thing not included in this site is a merger of product deals and product reviews. Some of these deals looked interesting and worthwhile, but my immediate next thought was ‘yeah, but is this brand or product highly regarded or can they just not sell it?’

Dealcomet.com In Their Own Words

Deal Comet is the hub for all us Deal Lovers out there!

It is for the people out there who won’t pay 49 cents more for the fancy bread at the sandwich shop, but will quickly splurge on a brand new plasma with a phat discount!

Deal Comet is also a place where people say phat!

Why Dealcomet.com It Might Be A Killer

The internet leverages the power of the consumer, and these kind of sites arm the consumer with valuable decision-making information. In particular, this site lets you know about the best deals for expensive electronic products. I also like the Digg feature, as it helps makes me think the product must be worth purchasing (probably not a good use of logic, but….).

Some Questions About Dealcomet.com

Why don’t they integrate user reviews/professional reviews of these products? It is hard for me to know if the deals are worthwhile if I don’t know how the product measures up. Also, why do they insist of reminding the user that they are young when recommending expensive products (eg., by telling us they prefer the word ‘phat’ to describe products)? If this were a site for finding the best club or the best new CD out there, I would want them to be young and hip. But for recommending electronic products, I prefer a more professional approach. Finally, how are they marketing this service, as their web traffic was quite low.
