Browsarity is a young service for supporting charities that has just come out of the Y Combinator camp. In this particular case, the idea is to let people donate to charities without even having to modify their shopping habits an iota.
Upon procuring and installing the provided Firefox plug-in your browser will be able to identify any link that is actually an affiliate one. In this way, you will be able to tell participating retailers from the rest, and figure out shopping at which online stores could let you do your part towards helping those in need.
If you think about it, such an implementation is the only viable one. After all, what could be an excuse not to help when everything is spelt out so clearly and effortlessly? Participating stores are underlined in red once the plug-in has been installed. You don’t even have to specify how much should be donated – it is all taken care of automatically. When you buy anything through an affiliate link, the money will go to a PayPal account. The proceedings will eventually be forwarded to the corresponding charities.
Future enhancements will include add-ons and extensions for every other major browser on the scene today, whereas it would be nice if more charities were added to the list of featured ones – nine are supported so far.
