Apple has acknowledged a dictation bug that replaces the word “racist” with “Trump” and has promised to fix it soon. The issue was reported by many users on social media. An Apple spokesperson said, “We are aware of the problem and are working to rectify it as swiftly as possible.
User experience and accuracy are our top priorities.”
The dictation feature lets users turn spoken words into text on their Apple devices. It is commonly used for messaging, emailing, and other apps. The bug has led to wider talks about tech biases and the duty of big tech firms to stop such errors.
Apple acknowledges dictation error
While some see it as just a software glitch, others say it shows the need for careful programming, testing, and proper word links in dictation software. Apple has not given an exact date for the fix but has urged users to keep their devices updated to get the latest improvements.
The incident comes as Apple recently announced a $500 billion investment in the U.S. over the next four years. This includes plans to make A.I. servers at a new facility in Houston starting next year. Last year, Apple launched a new A.I. system called Apple Intelligence.
However, it has faced some issues, such as wrongly summarizing news headlines from several media outlets last month. In 2018, Siri also had a political controversy when it showed a nude image in response to the question: “Who is Donald Trump?” This was traced to Wikipedia editors who had changed Siri’s information source.
