Apple is developing a new version of its Health app, including an AI coach. The project is progressing, with potential new features expected to debut as soon as spring or summer of 2026, alongside the release of iOS 19.4.

The AI coach will provide advice based on user medical device data and include features like food tracking.

The AI system is currently being trained using data from Apple’s staff physicians. The company plans to enlist additional doctors to create health-related video content. This new service is tentatively named Health+.

Apple is also developing an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) agent to dispense health advice. According to Bloomberg News, this initiative, dubbed “Project Mulberry,” marks one of Apple’s most significant ventures into the health sector.

The project is an evolution of an earlier effort called “Project Quartz.” That project aimed to use AI to help users with exercise, healthier eating, and sleeping habits. Development has ramped up recently, with a potential release coinciding with the launch of iOS 19.4 in the summer of 2025.

The Health app will collect data from users’ devices.

The AI coach will offer personalized recommendations for health improvements.

Apple also sources data from its in-house medical experts. It plans to recruit external specialists in sleep, nutrition, physical therapy, mental health, and cardiology to create video explainers on various health conditions. The revamped app will feature enhanced food-tracking capabilities.

It aims to compete with established names like MyFitnessPal and Noom. This marks a significant shift for Apple, which has previously avoided this area. Apple’s health initiatives have faced challenges in the past.

Last year, the company removed a blood oxygen feature from its smartwatch following a patent dispute with a medical technology firm. The upgraded Health app, tentatively titled Health+, could debut as soon as next spring. The new features include lifestyle recommendations based on the user’s health data, educational videos from real doctors covering various health topics, enhanced food tracking, and form correction tips for workouts using the device’s camera.

Apple reportedly has doctors on staff whose data is being used to train the AI agent. The company also plans to open a studio near Oakland, California, where they can film health-related content. Additionally, Apple is looking to recruit a prominent doctor to serve as the face of the Health+ service.

The revamped Health app is expected to be released with iOS 19.4, which could be available next spring or summer.
