Square Enix has announced the release of SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered for PS5, PS4, Switch, PC, iOS, and Android. The game is now available at $29.99 / £24.99 / €29.99 / 5,610 yen. SaGa Frontier 2, originally released in 1999 in Japan and 2000 in North America and Europe, has received a high-definition remaster.
The game is known for its signature watercolor visuals and has been enriched with new features, polished graphics, and additional content. The game follows two main protagonists: Gustave and Wil Knights. Born into a royal family, Gustave cannot cast spells, which leads to his exile.
He later acquires his own territory and becomes a pivotal figure in conflict among nations. Wild Knights is a fledgling digger who unravels the mysteries surrounding the enigmatic Egg, a powerful object that manipulates consciousness. The remastered version includes high-definition visuals, enhanced watercolor-style graphics, and more vivid original characters.

New sprites have been created for characters without unique sprites in the original game. The user interface, including the game’s History Choice and chronology systems, has been redesigned for more intuitive gameplay.
Under the supervision of franchise director Akitoshi Kawazu, writer Benny Matsuyama has introduced new story events that offer deeper insights into the original plot. New gameplay elements like Parameter Inheritance, postgame content, and New Game+ provide an enhanced experience. The excavation minigame “Dig! Dig! Digger,” previously exclusive to the Japan-only PocketStation peripheral, is now included for Western audiences.
SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered continues to offer its event-based narrative system that allows players to explore the story from multiple perspectives. Its “History Choice” system lets players select and experience different historical events. The game also includes enhanced battles, one-on-one duels and strategic gameplay influenced by the Glimmer and Combo mechanics.
The game brings back a cherished classic with modern enhancements, offering both nostalgic and new players an enriched gameplay experience. The new content and improved systems make it a must-play for fans of strategic RPGs.
