Ambigram.com – Ambigram Artist Community

An ambigram is a typographical creation that presents two or more separate words within the same physical space and Ambigram.com is the center of it all. Ambigram Magazine is dedicated completely to these mind-blowing designs. The site has many artists that show off their work and is committed to sharing any news having to do with ambigrams. Ambigram.com is open to article suggestions and will publish others designs and news if submitted through the “contact” page.

There are four main kinds of ambigrams: a symmetric rotational, asymmetric rotational, reflected and perceptual shift. The most common is the symmetric rotation. A word or phrase is written a certain way so that it is identical when it is read upside-down. The other form of rotational is asymmetric, where a phrase is written that a second and different word appears when you read it upside-down. This kind is also known as a symbiotogram. A reflected ambigram is symmetrical both horizontally and vertically. They are identical when reflected in a mirror. Then there are the ambigrams that require a shift in perception which is usually when a word can be read as two different words at the same time.

Ambigram.com has 11 artists that frequently publish their work on the site, and that number is always growing. John Langdon, is one of the original inventors of the art form and has created many famous ambigrams. His artwork was featured in “Angels and Demons” by Dan Brown and the main character, Robert Langdon, was named after him (played by Tom Hanks in the movie adaptation).
