Alro Steel Corporation was founded in Jackson, Michigan in 1948 by brothers Al and Robert Glick. There was a shortage of steel in the country in 1948 thanks to the war. The Glick brothers decided to supply the excess steel to those in need and Alro was created. Alro began as Alsteel in 1946. The name Alro came from the first two letters of each of the brothers names and put together. They created the Industrial Supply in 1964 when a local industrial supply store went out of business. Battle Creek became a warehouse for Alro in 1968. It was their first branch. The company continued to expand over the years with new warehouses and facilities. The Plastics part of the company was created in 1987. Their customers that were buying steel for their businesses were also buying plastic and it made sense for the company to branch out.
